Do Something Different

It’s easy to get comfortable when you find an easy way to do things. You find one way, one method that works, and you stick to it. Today we’re going to talk about why it’s a good idea to change things up, even when what you’re doing is working. Let’s do something different.

Why Change When Nothing is Wrong?

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Many people live by this mantra, and it will keep you from over-analyzing and changing things too often. However, just because something is “working,” doesn’t mean it can’t be improved. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t learn, grow, and even improve the existing method by branching out and doing things differently.

Without the willingness to do these things, even when things are going well, there be no such thing as innovation. Everything would stay static, and stagnate. It’s only by trying new things that you get outside your comfort zone, grow, and improve. Even your current methods have a limit to how much they can improve without new elements introduced.

You can apply this to any area of your life, no matter how great or small. You may fail at first, or at the very least not match the results of the methods you’re already used to. But that’s part of change an innovation: finding out what works.

The Benefits of the Different

The horse drawn carriage “worked” just fine. We didn’t “need” cars. Yet here we are with a world-wide industry, because someone decided to do something different. This is the growth that can only come with change, with the willingness to take chances and do things that are wildly different.

Once you are willing to take the plunge and do this, your growth potential is limitless. Failure with your new attempts is simply the price you are paying for innovations. Everything you try that doesn’t work is just finding out something you won’t spend time on the next time. In this way, you filter through everything and keep only what adds benefit to your pursuits. As long as you remain willing to try new things, you will only grow more versatile, and better at what you already know works to begin with.

What Have You Done Different?

As always, I want to hear from all of you. Tell us about a time that you broke out of your habits and did something different. Tell us about what you learned, and how you improved.
