The Small Things Still Need To Get Done

It can be easy to get caught up in the large things. Distant goals, world changing events, and so forth. We can't complete ignore these things, of course. They do impact our lives, and not being aware of them is a hindrance at best. But we don't have to let them rule us.

The Large Things

There are massive events taking place in the world all the time. An election. A war. A social movement. Things that impact your life, but that you can't impact.

While you shouldn't ignore these things, you can't afford to get so swept in them, or anything else for that matter, that you start neglecting the small, normal things you do. The large things don't change the necessity of the small things.

Skipping your workouts and meals or letting your performance suffer at work won't fix or change any of the large things. If anything, it will diminish whatever ability you do have to impact them.

Even if the whole world is catching fire, you still need to keep up the things that you know keep you strong and advance you towards your goals. Whether or not the grander scale things work out or fall apart, the world will keep on spinning. You will still need to live your life. Even if things do change drastically, you won't be at all served by neglecting yourself.

The Small Things Matter

As we've discussed before, doing the little things each day matters. Making your bed. Keeping your work and living spaces clean and organized. All of these things, along with whatever else you do, add up to form the foundation of your personal strength.

When you start letting these things go with the excuse of some large scale matter, you are only hurting yourself at best, and those around you as well at worst. Is your boss going to care what happened with the election, the war, the foreign incident? No, they're going to expect you to still meet deadlines, because the world keeps spinning. Nothing exists in a vacuum.

So while I'm not telling you be oblivious to the events greater than yourself and outside your immediate world, I'm definitely telling you to not act like they're a reason to neglect the little things that make up the foundation of it.

What Are Your Little Things?

As always, I want to hear from all of you. Tell us about the little things that make up your world, and how you balance between recognizing the importance of the large scale and maintaining them.
