Conviction - Knowing The Price And Paying It Happily

We all have things we want to have and accomplish. What everyone does not have is deep-seated conviction to push through opposition, doubt, and being questioned about the validity of those goals. So let’s talk about conviction.

Conviction - Where Does It Come From?

Put simply, conviction comes from knowing that you are right. Not suspecting, or thinking you are. KNOWING you are right. The feeling deep in your gut that what you are after is fundamentally correct for you. So where does this kind of certainty come from?

Firstly, it comes from information. You have to have the facts and knowledge about what it is you desire or seek to achieve. You must know it inside and out. What obtaining it will mean for you and your life. What it will cost you. The benefits and drawbacks of not only the achievement, but the steps you will need to take and the methods you will have to engage in. All of these things will become clear to you through any properly contemplated planning of any goal, which is just one reason why proper planning is so important. You must be able to see, from start to finish, what the consequences and costs of this pursuit will be.

Secondly, it comes from acceptance. You must make a fully informed decision that what you are after is worth what you will have to do and the price you will have to pay. Accepting this is key to achieving the conviction necessary to meet the challenges you will face along the way, and any cost you must be willing to pay upon your achievement. Reaching this level of acceptance is not always easy. Particularly when it comes to long term and high-set goals, the costs can be high. It is extremely important to take the time to truly contemplate, internalize, and accept what pursuing them will mean for you and your life.

Conviction - What Does It Mean?

When you have made an informed decision on and accepted the consequences of pursuing your goals, conviction becomes easier to have. Note that I am only saying it is “easier,” not that it will be easy. You will inevitably face challenges from any and all sides. The greater your goal, the more you will be beset by detractors and challengers. Some will question whether or not you have what it takes. Others may even question the morality of what you are pursuing. The latter, in particular, is what makes that informed decision so crucial. If you have done this properly, no one should be able to bring down with “have you considered” questions, because your answer will always be yes.

This does not mean that the challenges and obstacles you face will not be difficult and even painful. I in fact practically guarantee that they will be. Very few great achievements lack such things on the path towards them. The difference for you, when you act with certainty and conviction, is that you are ready for them. You know the price, and you’ve already decided to pay it. There is nothing that can dissuade you.
